Final blog post
Yay! The year is almost over! I'm looking forward to my birthday, Christmas and of course the holidays! But it will be my last week at St Bens. I have had a really awesome time at the school and I'm sad but excited to be leaving. I have made some really nice friends and have had such a fun experience in every class but most importantly I will miss my amazing sister (she forced me to put that in). I'm just going to keep this blog post short so good luck to all the year 8's at college next year and all the best for the year 7's and everyone else at the school. A big thank you to the school and all of the teachers who have taught me so much over the past years. BYE!!!

Favourite moment of the year
Favourite moment of the year
It's hard to believe that this year is coming to an end! It has gone so quickly! There have been so many fun times this year but one of the best experiences was camp. It was so fun to be away from school for a week and get to try out lots of new things! I really enjoyed the challenge of everything but my favourite things that we did were caving and the overnight trip even though I got like no sleep. There were lots of great times and funny stories to share like Joseph falling out of bed and Imogen finding a bra in her pack. Camp will be something that I will always remember.
Big day out
The big day out is coming up soon. It's a day off school where the whole school goes somewhere and does an activity for the day. Some years it has been really fun like when we went bowling at junglerama and to h20 extreme but other years have been horrible and have been spent walking around zealandia. So I hope we go somewhere really fun this year especially because it will be my birthday. My favourite big day out was when we went to h20 extreme but I was only in year 3 so I would love to go back because it was so much fun! But I don't think that it will be at h20 because the permission slip said that there will be no swimming involved :'( but the slip also didn't say that we need suitable walking shoes and that's what it usually says if we're going to zealandia. So I'm really interested to find out where it will be.

Going to college!
Next year I'm off to college! It's coming around so fast and just like everyone else I have mixed feeling about going to college. I'm both nervous and excited, there are so many things to think about! I will be attending Wellington Girls and it's a really big school! The total number of students at our school is the same number that will be in year nine next year. I worried about getting lost, when I tell college people this they laugh and say that there is nothing to worry about but what if I can't find my class and embarrassingly rush into another class by mistake! At WGC all the year nines have a "tuakana-older sister" person who shows them around and helps them out on the first day but apparently some don't even care and just abandon you so I hope I get a nice one. I'm not sure what the work will be like but I was told at the interview that they were trying to cut back on homework which is good but what if the work itself is hard. I'm looking forward to meeting new people, I hope to make some new friends but at the same time stay in touch with old ones. Overall college will probably be a really good experience 'and there are so many things to get excited about e.g. new uniform, laptop, meeting new people, more opportunities. I will make sure to try my hardest in all subjects and aim to get into some running events like the 3000m for athletics and go to nationals for cross country.

Book week
Last week was book week so our week was full of book related activities. Here were some of my favourites:
Kate De Goldi
A New Zealand author called Kate De Goldi came to talk to us and it was quite interesting. She read us stories that she wrote when she was younger and then showed us some of the published books that she's written. It was interesting to hear about her life story and how she gets her ideas for her books from events around her. It really showed me that a lot of time, hard work and effort goes in to writing a book.
Costume
I enjoyed helping make Mr Cunningham's costume for book character day. He was dressed as a wonka chocolate bar along with the other intermediate teachers. There was lot's of sketching and painting involved then we decided to add a bit of glitter which annoyed Ms Bolger.
Book quiz
Even though I wasn't in the book quiz I enjoyed watching it. Brigidene did really well. I was going through all of the answers that I knew in my head and then the house captains asked some questions to the audience. All of the house captains had put in a lot of effort and the powerpoints with the questions were really good.

Favourite book from when I was younger...
One of my favourite books that I read when I was younger was Olivia the Pig. I was kinda obsessed, I had all of the books, watched the TV show, had Olivia the Pig puzzles and made my Dad buy the Olivia the Pig theme song on iTunes so I could play it on my ipod. I guess I liked the books because they had my name in them. Olivia would always get into trouble, try on a million different outfits before deciding on one, painting on the walls, arguing with her parents and driving her family insane. It was so fun to see what she would get up to next.

AFL
Every Thursday morning for the rest of this term we will be learning how to play AFL (Australian football league). We had our first session last week and I have to say it was better than what I thought it would be. The instructor gave us a brief explanation about the game, points, tackling etc. and to me it sounds like rugby but rugby players would probably strongly disagree with me. We were taught a skill called a drop punt which basically seems like a drop kick but it had to go straight (which I kinda failed at) and we had to make sure that our arms weren't bent, the laces were facing away from us and that the crosses on either end of the ball were facing up and down. They gave these rules catchphrases like arrow arms and laces away from faces. We had a go practicing these drop punts and my ones pretty much went all over the place (including over the fence which resulted with an angry instructor). I was partnered with Imogen and we caught about 2 or 3 in a row then we had to try different styles like one handed and non-dominant foot kicking drop punts. The three main things that I learnt in the session were that you are allowed everywhere around the field in an AFL game, AFL is a tackle game and how to do a successful drop punt. I'm looking forward to the future sessions :)

Favourite things
At the moment I am really obsessed with watching YouTube videos. I cant wait until I can watch YouTube whenever I want when I get a laptop- er of course I mean do work on my laptop. I love watching vlogs and beauty/lifestyle videos to get inspired to do fun activities and see what other people get up to in life. I also love reading blogs and some YouTubers actually have blogs as well as YouTube channels so I read those and look at their photos to see where they shop or go on holiday. Lots of YouTubers have now written books so now I love going to Whitcoulls and flicking through all of the YouTuber books trying to decide which one I want the most. My parents get annoyed at how much time I'm spending online but it's worth it.
Thanks for reading :)
Olivia.
